Kitchen Design: The Latest Kitchen Design Trends

Modern kitchen design trends put emphasis on products that are eco-friendly and easy to use while at the same time being stylish in design and safe enough for production of healthy food. Many other articles go on and on about how adapting darker colored finishes and use of high-tech equipment is the in-thing. This kind of trends however, can cost you a fortune to adapt. In this guide however, I am going to speak on the one trend that won't cost you any money to implement but will in fact save you money will conserving the environment; Going green in our kitchens.

Going green is the trend nowadays in every aspect of our lives and especially in the way we design and use our kitchens. Use of renewable, eco-friendly and recyclable products in the kitchen ranks top in the list. So is having environmentally friendly, energy conserving kitchen appliances. This means use of tabletops and other kitchen furniture made of sustainable raw materials like bamboo.

Bamboo is said to be sustainable because it requires very little energy to grow and also uses up very little environmentally harmful pesticides if any. It also requires very little processing before it is ready for use. This furniture should also be made using environmentally safe materials with minimal use of harmful chemical-based products like adhesives.

Use kitchen appliances like dish washing machines that conserve water and energy. Modern eco-friendly dish washing machines come with an eco-setting option that when selected use up less energy and water. Use energy efficient lighting like LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights in the kitchen. This lights apart from using less electricity than normal incandescent bulbs, also last a long time which reduces the need for their replacement.

Although initially costly to adapt, the cost savings brought about by these bulbs is clearly worth the effort. A lot of our electricity is produced from the burning of fossil fuels like coal which are responsible for increased global warming. Conserving electricity saves money and also means that less electricity is produced with reduced global warming effects.

Old kitchen designs encourage the wastage of water. Rather we should adapt designs that encourage water recycling. Conserving water is always a very wise idea because although water might seem like a common commodity in the developed countries, third world countries still lack water for even the most basic of needs. Use green paints to decorate your kitchen. These are paints made from natural organic raw materials that are eco-friendly and reduce pollution.

Consider where your trash goes after it gets out of your kitchen. Burning of trash in landfills produces a lot of air polluting fumes. As I said earlier in this article, Carbon dioxide is responsible for increased global warming and it is produced in large amounts when organic matter is burned. Reduce the amount of trash that comes out of your kitchen and into your trash bag.

We can easily do this by recycling and reusing empty containers in our kitchens. Use a reusable washcloth to wipe spills in the kitchen and then clean it and dry it for reuse instead of using disposable paper towels. Avoid using paper cups and plates and other disposable utensils. Kitchen design experts recommend that you sort out your kitchen trash from the rest of your trash and use it to make compost manure for your garden. You can also keep fish in your backyard and feed them with the kitchen waste.
