PONGAL WISHES

Hai friends
HAPPY PONGAL to everyone.
This is a big festival for andhra people.New dresses ,festive foods(pindivontalu),rangavallulu(rangoli) ,gobbemmalu, narada swamulu ,kids going to their maternal granny's house, new bride-groom going to his mama's house bhogipallu for kiddoos, family rituals and lots more..fun. .....by staying outside India we are all missing all these things...
Sankranti means welcoming the harvest to home..
It is four day festival in Andhra Pradesh,
- Bhogi Panduga (Bhogi Pongal)
- Pedda Panduga (Surya Pongal)
- Kanuma Panduga (Kanuma Pongal)
- Mukkanuma Panduga (Maattu Pongal)

On this day we do a function called BHOGIPALLU for kids under 10 years to remove the evil eyes(dishti)on them.BHOGI PALLU means we mix up some copper coins, regu pallu ,flowers and small pieces of sugar cane.and in the evening we make all the small kids in the home to sat in one place .Starting from the elders in the house one by one will come to them and take handfull of the above mixed thing and we will round our hand 3 times on the head of the kid and finally we will drop them on their head.so that no evil (disti)comes to them..we will follow this for every kid in the house.this is a compulsary function in ANDHRA.
SANKRANTI:Makar Sankranti is the day when the glorious Sun-God of Hindus begins its ascendancy and entry into the Northern Hemisphere. Sun for the Hindus stands for Pratyaksha-Brahman - the manifest God, who symbolizes, the one, non-dual, self-effulgent, glorious divinity blessing one & all tirelessly. Sun is the one who transcends time and also the one who rotates the proverbial Wheel of Time. The famous Gayatri Mantra, which is chanted everyday by every faithful Hindu, is directed to Sun God to bless them with intelligence & wisdom. Sun not only represents God but also stands for an embodiment of knowledge & wisdom. Lord Krishna reveals in Gita that this manifested divinity was his first disciple, and we all know it to be indeed a worthy one too. No Sundays for the Sun, may be because one who revels in its very 'being', the very essence of his own Self, is always in the Sunday mood.

On this day normally the men will be invited by the wife's parents. They will get new clothes from them and some more gifts...i think every men look for this day...they think"what my mama give to me"...:-))
KANUMA:. The third day is known as Kanuma. As cinema is a highly popular medium in the state of Andhra Pradesh, a bounty of films, featuring the biggest of stars release on this day. The winner of this battle, is generally crowned the "King of the Box Office" for the year. This season is also famous for cockfights in the state of Andhra Pradesh (but it is not legal these days).
On this day everybody will be happy with all the new things and roaming here and there...
On the next day everybody somewhat feel sad.Somebody going to their destinations and to routine work .All the excitement will be over.Again we have to wait a year to get all these celebrations.........the kids will be bored to leave all other friends, tatayya, nanamma ,pedananna, mamayya,,,and so on...any way the happiness that we shared with our loved ones on these festive days will be an year long memory.............
ONCE AGAIN A HAPPY PONGAL TO ALL MY FELLOW BLOGGERS......ENJOY WITH UR FAMILY...
